Article Types

Original Research Articles

Original Research Articles report novel experimental, observational, computational, or theoretical findings that constitute a significant, previously unpublished contribution to the field. They must present clear hypotheses or research questions, rigorous methodology, and data-supported conclusions.

  • Word limit: 4,000–7,000 words (excluding abstract, references, tables, figure legends)
  • Abstract: Structured (Background / Methods / Results / Conclusion), max 300 words
  • Sections: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion
  • Maximum figures + tables combined: 10 (additional may be submitted as supplementary)

Review Articles

Review Articles provide comprehensive, critical, and balanced syntheses of current knowledge on a topic within the journal's scope. They should go beyond merely summarising the literature to identify patterns, controversies, gaps, and future research directions. Narrative, systematic, and scoping reviews are all considered.

  • Word limit: 5,000–10,000 words
  • Abstract: Unstructured, max 300 words (or structured for systematic reviews per PRISMA)
  • Should include a PRISMA flow diagram for systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
  • Authors proposing a review article are encouraged to contact the editorial office with a brief outline before preparing the full manuscript.

Short Communications

Short Communications are concise reports of significant, novel findings that warrant prompt communication but do not constitute a full-length research paper. The work must nonetheless be complete, with sufficient methodological detail for reproducibility.

  • Word limit: 1,500–3,000 words
  • Abstract: Unstructured, max 200 words
  • Maximum: 2 figures and 2 tables
  • No sub-headings required, but Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion should be clearly identifiable.

Review Articles (Mini Reviews)

Mini Reviews are shorter synthetic perspectives on a focused topic, emerging trend, or recent methodological development.

  • Word limit: 2,500–5,000 words
  • Abstract: Unstructured, max 200 words

Editorials & Perspectives

Editorials and Perspectives address important developments, emerging issues, policy matters, or scholarly viewpoints relevant to the biological and pharmaceutical sciences. These contributions are normally commissioned by or subject to prior approval from the Editor-in-Chief.

  • Word limit: 800–1,500 words
  • No abstract required
  • References: maximum 20
  • Authors wishing to submit a Perspective should contact the editorial office with a brief proposal.
